Welcome to the final leg of the Spring Semester!  We at the library wish you well on finals and hope to make this stressful time a little less so.  Come in and find not only your friendly reference librarian, ready and willing to lend a research hand, but a comfortable, quiet study space.  Be sure to give your best guess as to how many jellybeans in the jar- if you guess right, you win the jar plus few other goodies!  Be sure also, to take note of our extended hours:

The “new and improved” Cleveland Library website is all set and ready for you to use!  New colors, fonts and functions make searching for books, videos and databases easier- even chat with a libriarian about any reference questions you may have!  All of this from the comfort of your own laptop.  Let us know what you think.

Is the library’s website putting you to sleep? Not any longer. Change is coming after Spring Break.

 Be on the look out for our new library website design.  A group of library staffers have been working hard to include useful tools in new colors, fonts and easier access to things that you NEED!  Alot of the new design was based on input from students, so we hope yo find it useful.  If you have any feedback let us know!

 Now that spring semester is here, the snow has finally made its winter debut!  Come to the library and get ideas on how to make the most of snow and wintertime fun.  We have a great optical illusion display set up to challenge your peepers.  Gain insight and learn about various African- American leaders- including Martin Luther King in another display.  Make it your New Year resolution to make this the best semester yet!  That means using all the resources at your disposal in the library to ensure your success.  We are, as always, dedicated to your academic success and we look forward to seeing you at the library!

Friends of the Susan C. Cleveland Library at Colby-Sawyer College are pleased to announce our Fall 2011 Books Sandwiched In series.  All are to take place in the Alumni Lounge in the Ware Campus Center from 12-1 pm on the following dates:

October 26-  Former Colby-Sawyer adjunct professor Katharine Britton will present on her new publication, Her Sister’s Shadow.  This intriguing and well written read takes you back and forth through time, depicting a sisters’ relationship and how it is affected by time and a traumatic event. 

November 2-  Colby-Sawyer alumni and artist Alison Vernon will display her artistic talents, talk about her inspirations and how she became passionate about palette knife painting, and speak about the “business end” of the art business.  As she states, “Building a successful art business takes more than just talent”.

November 9-  Colby-Sawyer adjunct professor Ivy Page will do a reading of her own poetry.  Ivy has two books forthcoming in the next couple of years.  She will speak about her inspirations and how they manifested themselves ultimately in a need to “speak” poetry, because, as she states, “poetry must be heard”.

Feel free to bring lunch to munch on.  Admission is free and all are welcome to attend!

We at the Library would like to welcome all in the CSC community back to a new and exciting academic year!  Lots of changes have taken place in the library over the summer - we invite you to come “check them out”. 

We have set up a new “comfy seating area” (on the 2nd level) replete with plush new chairs that invite relief from stressful academic pursuits.  Media is now located near the reference section on the main level, and oversize  and reference books have been inter-filed.  We also have snazzy new computers for your use all throughout the library, and new group study tables  have been placed near the periodicals on the first level. 

Be sure to take note of our new monitor placed near the Helpdesk, as it will be filled with lots of  information from how to access the newest databases, to the newest in tech support.

We welcome all suggestions and ideas on how the library can better service your needs. 

We are looking forward to a great academic year!

You are invited to hear stories from local authors, historians, and digital autobiographies from Colby-Sawyer students!

April 6,  12-1pm: Jennifer Carson Local  Author/Artist will present on her inspirations for her first publication, To Find A Wonder, and her many artistic talents.

April 13,  12-1pm:  In Their Words: Selections from New London Archives.  Historians Jim Perkins and Lloyd Littlefield collaborate to present reflections from famous local personalities in our town’s history.

April 20 5-6:30 pm: Local Time  Professor Brian Clancy will present digital autobiographies from his Pathway class, drawing inspiration from the book, Listening Is An Act of Love.

 Thursday, April 28  7-9 pm,  Sutton Town Hall, Sutton Mills-  Jack Noon, local author and historian will discuss and present anecdotes from his newest book, History Of Sutton Vol. III, Sutton’s Seven Villages. 

Thursday, May 19  7-9 pm,  Free Will Baptist Church, North Sutton-  Rebecca Courser, from the Warner  Historical Society will present on, This Morning Broke Clear, a collaborative film project that focuses on stories from 19^th century Warner town folk.
